Recycling your handset

How does it work?

To find out more visit our How It Works page.

Can anyone send handsets in?

In order to use Phone Recycle Bank you must be 18 years of age or older, live in the UK and be the rightful owner of the phone you want to recycle.

What types of mobile phone can I send in?

You can send in any make or model of mobile phone, either working or non working. The better & newer the model, the more money you will receive. Please note foreign handsets may not qualify for full payment if they are locked to a foreign network.

What do I need to send with the handset?

You will definitely need to send the battery with the handset. As for the mains charger, headset and other accessories – it's up to you; they will not increase the value of your trade, but they will be recycled in line with EU standards. Please be sure to save and remove any data or photos you wish to keep and remove your SIM Card before sending your old mobile phone to us. Any personal details sent to us by mistake will be destroyed immediately and therefore can not be returned. If you have a PIN code on your mobile for security reasons, make sure you either remove it completely, or, if you don't know how, write the PIN code on the order details sheet you include with your package. Phones that are received locked with a PIN code cannot be paid at the full working price.

What do I do if I cannot see my handset listed?

We regularly update the handsets listed on our website. However, there are some handset models that are not listed either because they do not have a trade-in value, usually due to their age or specifications, or because the handset is a newer model that we have not yet added. If you cannot find your exact model, please email us at info@phonerecyclebank.com and we'll review the model to see if it's one that can be added to the site.

Can companies, organisations and charities use this service?

Sending your handset

Is there a limit on the number of handsets that I can send in?

No, you can send in as many handsets as you like. The more handsets you submit; the more money you receive.

I have 10 or more phones to trade; how do I arrange free courier collection?

If you have 10 or more phones, please contact us on 0800 0151567 to arrange a free courier. Please advise us of the following details; - Contact Name and Number - Collection Address - How many handsets? - Any specific collection details? - A preference on day and time. (The options are between Monday & Friday 9.00am and 5.30pm.) Alternatively contact us via email at:

info@phonerecyclebank.com with the above information

Do I need to pay for postage to send my handset in?

No, we will provide you with a FREEPOST bag to use; alternatively you can put the handset in your own jiffy bag and post it to the address below:

Freepost RRXG-LYRT-BUBA
PRB (Bay 5)
PO BOX 481
CW1 9FF

Please be aware that Freepost is not a traceable shipping method, so by using it, you are accepting the risk of it being lost or damaged in transit. We are unfortunately not able to accept responsibility for handsets until they are received at our facility. Therefore, we recommend that at a minimum you obtain a "Certificate of Posting" from your local post office. This is a free of charge service by Royal mail, which consists of a simple form you can fill out and get stamped when you drop your package at the post office. This way, if your package is lost or damaged by Royal Mail you can make a claim with them that may cover you up to £39.00. If your phone has a higher value than that, we strongly recommend that you send your phone via special or recorded delivery. This will allow you to track the delivery of your phone and allow you to make a Royal Mail claim for loss or damage which may cover you up to £500.00.

How much time do I have to send my handset in?

The total payment amount quoted on your order confirmation is valid for 14 days. This will provide you with sufficient time to get the handset to us.

What should I do if I haven't sent the handset in after 14 days?

Unfortunately, handset valued change often. If the value of yours has changed since the date you placed your order, we will be unable to honour the original price quoted for your handset past the 14-day guarantee period. You can still send your handset in. When it is received, you'll be notified that it was received late and asked if you accept the new price. If you accept, you will be paid at the price valid on th date your handset is receied.

What should I do if I forget to include the tear off slip in the recycle bag?

If you have used the Freepost bag we supply, then there is a serial number on it that will help us match your handset to your order. If a courier collected your parcel, the tracking number will serve the same function. If, however, you posted your parcel in your own envelope, then not including the tear off slip could make matching the handset to the order a bit more complicated. If you entered your IMEI correctly on our site, we should still be able to match the handset to the order

What should I do if I don't receive my FREEPOST recycle bag?

You should receive your FREEPOST bag within 3-4 working days. However if you do not receive your FREEPOST recycle bag please contact us at info@phonerecyclebank.com and include the following information:

1. Your name

2. Your current address

3. Your order number and date the order was placed

A member of our customer service team will dispatch another recycle bag and contact you to let you know it's been done. If you prefer not to wait, you can put the handset in your own jiffy bag and post it to the address below:

Freepost RRXG-LYRT-BUBA

Please be aware that Freepost is not a traceable shipping method, so by using it, you are accepting the risk of it being lost or damaged in transit. Payment

How and when will I receive payment?

Upon receipt of your handset at our recycling center, we will verify that the condition of your handset matches the condition you listed when you placed your order. Once your order has cleared the verification your payment will be processed and paid within 4 working days for BACS (electronic bank transfer) or Cheque and 5-7 working days for PayPal. Please note Phone Recycle bank is owned and operated by 20:20 Mobile, so your BACS payment will show 20:20 Mobile UK as the source of the funds.

What happens if my handset is physically damaged or liquid damaged?

To qualify for 100% of the working price, your handset must be in perfect working order and un-damaged. Non-working phones will be paid at the listed non-working price. Certain conditions, such as liquid damage, or a phone being broken in more than one piece are considered a failure to meet the minimum requirements and render the phone inelligible for payment – please refer to our Terms & Conditions of Supply for full details regarding what conditions render a phone non-working or fails to meet requirements. If your phone is found not to meet the minimum criteria for the grade you have listed online, you will be notified via email and asked to accept the new price offered, or have the handset returned to you at no extra charge. Unfortunately Phone Recycle Bank can not be held responsible for damage caused in transit. You will be given 14 days to reply to the email notification. If we do not hear from you within 14 days of notification we will automatically consider that an implicit acceptance and the phone will automatically be paid at the current non-working price, or if it failed to meet requirements, it will be recycled in a manner congruent with EU regulations without payment being issued.

What happens if the handset is barred or registered as stolen?

All handsets received are run through CheckMEND, which checks a nationwide database to identify phones that are blacklisted. Some of the reasons handsets get blacklisted are:

* The phone has been reported as lost or stolen

* The phone has been blocked by a UK network

* There has been an insurance claim made on the phone

In any of these cases a phone will fail our due diligence process and we will not be able take legal ownership of the item nor return it to you until the situation is resolved. If you or any previous owner made any of these reports then the relevant person must contact CheckMEND at support@checkmend.com and ask them for guidance in resolving this situation.

What if the handset fails to meet the minimum requirements in your Terms and Conditions?

To qualify for 100% of the working price, your handset must be in perfect working order and un-damaged. Non-working phones are paid at the listed non-working price. Certain conditions, however, such as liquid damage, a phone being broken in more than one piece, the SIM or memory card being glued in, etc are considered a failure to meet the minimum requirements and render the phone inelligible for payment – please refer to our Terms & Conditions of Supply for full details regarding what conditions cause a phone to fail to meet requirements. If we do not hear from you within 14 days of notification we will automatically consider that an implicit acceptance and the phone will automatically be recycled in a manner congruent with EU regulations without payment being issued.

General

What happens to my mobile phones?

Please refer to our Green Recycling page to read about this subject.

What is an IMEI number?

The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number is a serial number unique to each and every mobile phone. The IMEI is usually printed on the compliance plate under the battery (15 digit number). Alternatively you can enter * # 0 6 # on the keypad & it will display its IMEI number on the screen for you. The IMEI number has to be entered onto the website at the point of trade so that we can track the handset through our business.

What should I do if I have included the incorrect IMEI number?

Having the correct IMEI listed on your order is of great importance as it is a unique identifier that can help us match the handset to your order in the event that you forget to include your order information with the phone, or for some reason the phone gets separated from the documentation you send in. If you notice that you have entered an incorrect IMEI number on your order, it will help us greatly if you inform us. To do this, simply drop us an email at info@phonerecyclebank.com and provide us with the following information:

1. Your full name

2. Handset make and model

3. Date order was placed

4. Revised IMEI - Found by entering *#06# on your phones display (Where you dial numbers)

Alternatively please feel free to call the Phone Recycle Bank customer services team on 0800 0151567

What should I do if I do not receive a confirmation of receipt from Phone Recycle Bank?

Should you not hear from us to say we have received your handset please contact us at info@phonerecyclebank.com and provide us with the following information

1. Your full name

2. Your order number and the date your order was placed

3. The date you posted your parcel. If you used registered post or special delivery, then also include any tracking numbers or identifying information you may have been given. This will help us trace the location of your parcel and get your order processed in a timely manner.
